Rose & Thorn Counselling
Welcome, I am Susan Blacker, the founder of Rose & Thorn Counselling and a Canadian Certified Counsellor. With over 15 years of professional expertise, I support women across Alberta through confidential and accessible virtual counselling sessions. You can learn further details about my background in the About Me section of this site.

How I Help You
I meet you where you are currently in your mental health journey, offering support to provide meaningful and sustainable change.

Dating & Marriage
Whether you are struggling with dating, seeking a long-term partnership, or navigating the complexities of marriage, I offer a calm, non-judgmental space to explore your patterns, rebuild trust, and make choices that truly honour your needs.

Relational Self Awareness
I provide a steady and compassionate space for you to cultivate Self Awareness, helping you identify hidden habits and narratives. By understanding your inner world, you can establish firm boundaries and make empowered life decisions that resonate with your true self.

Life Transitions
Life is full of change—from divorce and career shifts to health changes like menopause. I support you through transitions that are unique to women. Grief and loss are often present during these shifts, and we can gently address these feelings together in our sessions.
Counselling Services FAQ
Do you offer in-person or online sessions?
I currently offer online sessions only. Sessions are held over a secure video platform through the Jane App.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes in length, and we use this time to work toward your goals at a pace that feels manageable.
What happens during the first session?
In our first session, we’ll talk about what brought you to counselling, your history, and what you’d like to change or understand better. I’ll ask some questions, share how I work, and together we’ll decide on a plan that fits your needs.
Do you offer a meet-and-greet option to see if we’re a good fit?
Yes. I offer a brief consultation so you can ask questions, get a sense of my style, and see if I am a good fit for your counselling needs. The meet-and-greet can be booked through the Jane App.
How much does counselling cost?
My current fee is $185 per 50-minute session. I will review fees and policies with you before we begin so there are no surprises.
Do you offer direct billing or insurance receipts?
I issue formal receipts under my Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation, which is widely recognized and covered by many insurance providers. Direct billing is available with certain insurance providers. As individual policies vary, I highly recommend contacting your provider to confirm your specific coverage for a CCC professional before our first session.
How do I book an appointment?
Clicking “Book Now” will take you to the Jane App to schedule your appointment. My current availability is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings.
